TIPS FOR DOING WELL ON THE GMAT-1

Doing well on the GMAT is a major milestone in pursuing a graduate degree from a top university. The exam is recognized worldwide by leading educational institutions for selecting students for their courses. Competition for admission into the best schools is quite high, so acing the GMAT is a crucial step.

Studying for the GMAT requires an investment of time, energy, and determination. The GMAT is quite difficult with tricky questions and brutal timing. The exam gets progressively more difficult with every question you answer correctly. Taking all this into consideration it can be said that preparing for the GMAT can be overwhelming. So here are the Top 5 GMAT Preparation Tips suggested by the best GMAT instructors and institutes:

STUDY TIP 1: Plan Ahead and Stick to your Goals

Ideally, you’d give yourself a runway of six- to seven months, which gives you time to take and potentially retake the exam. But the best time to prepare is when you can block out two-to-three solid months of study when you have the least number of other distractions.  There should be a learning objective every time you sit down to study. Such as, decreasing the amount of time from 2 minutes to 1.45 for answering easy data sufficiently questions, refreshing sentence structure or reviewing exponent rules that you can apply to problem-solving. Having a very clear learning objective will go a long way in terms of helping to create structure and opportunities to measure your progress.

STUDY TIP 2: Quality over Quantity

You cannot cram for the GMAT. 20 hours of study spaced out over 10 days is going to be much more effective than 20 hours of study over 2 days. Aim for consistency and repetition of concepts to help you make the connections you need. The most effective prep comes afterwards when you carefully review problems you missed, skipped or guessed. It is not useful to do more problems if you make the same mistake again. Individual tutoring with a GMAT coaching centercan be incredibly helpful for doing this kind of analysis.
